July 21st Meeting with Jon Lisbin

The Crown Hill Business Association offers local business leaders the opportunity to network and share information about their business and their business concerns; learn about other businesses; and learn about changes in the Crown Hill community that impact businesses.

Join the conversation at the July 21st meeting with City Council Candidate for District 6, Jon Lisbin, who will be our guest speaker.

Jon is the Chairman and Founder of Point It, which he has grown from scratch into one of Seattle's largest and most successful privately run digital marketing companies. For each of the past three years the company was recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of Washington's top 100 fastest growing private companies.

Having built an exceptional management team for the firm, and completing his Master of Public Administration at the University of Washington's Evans School of Public Affairs, he is now seeking to apply his leadership skills to the public sector. He is running for City Council – District 6 (Ballard, Greenlake, Phinney Ridge, and Fremont)

When not working or collecting fancy degrees, Jon loves the great outdoors; hiking, biking, motorcycling and skiing. He also enjoys playing the role of family guy and "soccer mom" with his lovely wife and fantastic 10 year old son.

We look forward to seeing you!

Are You Communicating Effectively?

by John Marshall

Many entrepreneurs struggle with revenue development because they are not communicating effectively. Let me share a story about one of our small business clients that was frustrated with her business results, due to poor communication.

She was in a recent sales slump. There weren't many new clients over the past few months.

To help determine what might be the reason, we decided to do some 'role playing'. I would be the buyer and she would be the seller. She decided that she would deliver her presentations using a few of her different products, while I adopted different 'buying personalities'.

Together we communicated back and forth in business like scenarios, as she presented in her usual presentation style. After she finished her presentations, I knew why she was in a revenue slump. She wasn't doing this one thing. Perhaps you don't do this either.

What's this 'one thing'?

It's adjusting your communication style to potential clients. Let me explain.

Her communication style in these role playing exercises was the same even though I presented different types of 'buyer personalities'.

For example, one of the buyer personalities I used was a 'driver personality'. These types of individuals are dominant, independent, candid and efficient. To communicate effectively with them you have to be brief, direct and confident. You need to focus on results.

Pedestrian Retail Areas Comment Period and Project Update

The Seattle government is proposing pedestrain retail areas on the NW 15th Avenu corridor. These changes will affect Crown Hill businesses. The text below comes from an email sent out to keep the public updated:

SEPA Comment Period

We have updated our preliminary staff recommendations for proposed pedestrian retail areas. We have also published notice of a Determination of Non-Significance (DNS) on the proposed changes, as a part of the required State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) review. A DNS means that we don't think there will be any negative environmental impacts caused by our proposal. See our Project Documents page for more information and a list of documents. The official SEPA comment period runs from September 18 through October 2 of 2014.

Send comments about the DNS or potential environmental impacts to:
